"What were the highlights? EVERYTHING!!! Cari and Ginger were fabulous! Loved meeting the weavers, learning their complicated weaves done on such simple looms, beautiful scenery, delicious food, seeing llamas and alpacas, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, floating islands, condors, the clothing, ruins, churches, the markets and Maximo Laura. ~Sheryl, IA
The majesty of the Andes, awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, an ancient culture... these are just a few of the treasures that make Peru a wonderland for the textile traveler.
Teaming up with local legend Nilda Callanupa Alvarez (author of Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands) and creator of the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco, we will immerse ourselves in the ancient textile traditions of the Peruvian Highlands visiting remote weaving communities in the mountain villages surrounding Cusco including Chinchero and Chahuaytire. In the Sacred Valley, we will join the local weavers in hands-on backstrap weaving and natural dyeing workshops; explore indigenous markets and visit the magnificent Incan ruins of Machu Picchu. Join us for this unique opportunity to mingle with and learn from these legendary textile artists. The trip will also include visits to Cusco and Lima.
Optional Independent Extension to Lake Titicaca
