Legendary Weavings of the Pacific North Coast

Rediscover the Lost Art of Ravenstail Weaving

With the gracious seaside town of Victoria as our backdrop, we will spend three days learning the ancient art of Ravenstail weaving. This style was indigenous along the northwest coasts of Alaska and Canada until the late 1700's when it virtually disappeared for almost 200 years. It was revived by Cheryl Samuel in the 1980's with the publishing of her book, "The Raven's Tail."

We will each complete a small project during the workshop - perfect for beginning and experienced weavers alike! We are so fortunate to have Cheryl Samuel as our instructor. Cheryl has mastered the lost technique of Ravenstail weaving, taught extensively, recreating and expanding the language of weaving, traveled internationally to study and document all historical robes and written two books on the techniques and history of Northwest Coast weaving.

In addition to learning this ancient art, we will have time to explore the many wonders of Victoria and its surroundings.  While enjoying some of Canada's most exhilarating scenery, Victoria also boasts many museums, waterfront paths, fragrant flower gardens, gourmet restaurants and immaculately restored stately 19th-century architecture.
