We are so excited to offer this new pairing of rich fiber traditions for a 10 day odyssey.  While the two techniques may seem unconnected, both are in fact rooted in intuitive creativity and are a perfect combination for an epic cultural fiber experience.

The Cowichan Valley, in the southest of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, is home to one of the largest First Nation communities, the Cowichan Tribes.  A special form of knitting was developed by these First Nation people has become iconic around the world.  Using a combination of European textile techniques, along with Coast Salish spinning and weaving methods, the Cowichan First Nations create amazing Cowichan garmets.  We are thrilled to team up with Sylvia Olsen, renowned Cowichan knitting historian, storyteller and author of Working with Wool, A Coast Salish Legacy & the Cowichan Sweater and Knitting Stories and other books.  Even if one is not an accomplished knitter, or even a knitter at all, this workshop set in lovely Victoria will be an unforgettable cultural experience.  Taught by Sylvia and her Coast Salish daughter Joni, it is a combination of learning to knit in the Cowichan tradition interwoven with storytelling by a master and exploring the collective history of the people of British Columbia.

Come and immerse yourself in the color and creativity of the SAORI way of weaving.  "There are no rules, no mistakes, only the joy of creating with fiber."  Well known throughout Canada as an artist sanctuary and the Jewel of the Canadian West Coast, Salt Spring Island, the largest of British Coumbia's Gulf Islands.  Referred to by the locals as the "Sheep Tour," one can visit over 30 home studios of weavers, potters, sculptors, painters and photographers.  Postcard perfect, much of the island is an unspoiled paradise.  During our 3 day SAORI Weaving Workshop with Terri Bibby, we will have the opportunity to let the natural beauty be our muse.  The trip includes a full day exploration of this Island of Artists along with a visit to the Saturday Island Market featuring internationally aclaimed artists.
