Our Special Textile Artist, Di Gilpin
Winner of The Balvenie Master of Craft in Textiles 2012
We are thrilled to have renowned Scottish knitting artist and author, Di Gilpin, involved in our adventure. Di will join us for a trunk show, book signing and workshop!
Having started in 1983 on Skye with a hand-knitting studio , Di Gilpin has been designing and knitting for almost 30 years with clients that include Bette Midler and Helena Bonham Carter. Her designs reflect her love of the Scottish coastlines and Isles, and cosy chunky knits and textures are her trademark. Combining funky and traditional style, Di Gilpin’s knitting patterns have an artsy appeal.
Di’s knowledge of hand-knit and Scottish fibre led her to work with Rowan and the Carloway Mill on the Isles of Lewis and Harris to develop The Rowan Scottish Tweed range.
She designed and produced the iconic book Shorelines featuring this yarn, poetry by Brian Johnston and Di’s designs. This led to lecture tours of the US and subsequent
commissions from Vogue Knitting, Interweave Press, Knitting Magazine and many more publishers.
Di successfully combines traditional techniques and demand for well-made, sustainable, fashionable pieces. She has recently created a new company with its own couture label; this expertly-designed and primarily hand-knitted line brings provenance and sustainability to the fashion industry.
